Material Misrepresentation

"The intentional concealment, distortion or fabrication of a material fact.

material fact
A fact of such importance that without it a contract or other legal obligation would not have been made; a fact that would alter an underwriting decision or loss settlement.

A fact of such importance that were it revealed in an insurance application, the underwriting decision would have been different. Such facts often come to light after a claim has been reported.
