Deductible

"A deductible is the amount you pay out-of-pocket for expenses for an insurance claim. On a General Liability policy the deductible can apply to Bodily Injury (BI) and Property Damage (PD) separately or to both. In other words there can be a deductible for only BI or a only PD or both BI and PD. There are other factors that define what the deductible will be charged for as well for example expenses to the carrier to handle the claim. The deductible will also apply per ""occurrence"" or per ""claim"". If the deductible is per claim there can be several claims resulting from a single occurrence and each would incur it's own deductible. A simple example of this is an over spray occurrence where 5 cars were damaged by over spray. Each separate owner would constitute a separate claim on a ""per claim"" basis would each be a separate claim. Needless to say a ""per occurrence"" deductible is better than a ""per claim"" deductible. "
