"EIFS is a type of exterior cladding sometimes referred to as a ""synthetic stucco"" and also known by individual brand names such as Dryvit, Sto and others. EIFS is not a single material, but rather a ""system"" comprised of multiple components, including a polystyrene foam layer. However, the term EIFS does not apply to the use of synthetic material applied as a finish coat over traditional stucco or masonry — which is sometimes called ""one coat.'' (Some builders refer to ""one coat"" as ""EIFS"", but they are not synonymous terms. This distinction is key, because the change in our coverage applies only to EIFS and not “one coat"").There is a very high probability of a claim when EIFS is used. As a result virtually all General Liability policies now specifically exclude coverage for EIFS."
